1 Chronicles
First Chronicles is written from a priestly perspective, summarizing the history of Israel from Adam up to the Babylonian exile, focusing heavily on the southern kingdom of Judah, the line of David, and the organization of Temple worship. The book begins with long genealogies that establish the connection between the past and the present. It then dedicates significant space to the reign of King David, emphasizing his role in planning and preparing for the Temple, though his son Solomon would ultimately build it. Unlike 1 and 2 Samuel, Chronicles focuses less on David’s personal failures and more on his successes in religious and national leadership, highlighting the importance of proper worship and spiritual commitment.
David attempts to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Uzzah improperly touches the Ark to steady it and is immediately struck dead, halting the Ark's journey.
King Hiram of Tyre builds David a house. David defeats the Philistines at Baal Perazim, establishing his dominance. He is blessed by God with increased fame and military power.
David attempts to move the Ark of the Covenant a second time, this time ensuring the Levites carry it on their shoulders, following the Law. The Ark is safely brought into Jerusalem with great rejoicing.
The Ark is placed in a tent in Jerusalem. David leads a national celebration and assigns Levites to perpetual service, singing a psalm of thanks and praise to the Lord.
