
1 Corinthians
Paul wrote the First Letter to the Corinthians to address serious theological, ethical, and practical problems that had emerged in the diverse, cosmopolitan church in Corinth. He addresses issues like divisions and factions within the church, sexual immorality, lawsuits among believers, and confusion over marriage. Paul offers correction regarding the proper use of spiritual gifts, emphasizing that all gifts, including speaking in tongues and prophecy, must be used in an orderly way for the building up of the whole church. The book contains the famous "love chapter" (Chapter 13) and a powerful defense of the resurrection of Christ and the future resurrection of believers, stressing unity and holiness in Christian community.
