2 Chronicles

Second Chronicles continues the history, focusing exclusively on the kings of Judah (the Southern Kingdom) from the reign of Solomon until the Babylonian exile. The book highlights the importance of the Jerusalem Temple and its worship. It praises the righteous kings, such as Hezekiah and Josiah, who successfully led the people in spiritual revival and restored true worship of God. Conversely, it details the failures of the wicked kings who promoted idolatry. The book stresses the principle of immediate divine response: kings who obey God are blessed and successful, while those who disobey face swift judgment. It concludes with the destruction of the Temple and a hopeful reference to the decree allowing the exiles to eventually return home.
