Ezekiel
Ezekiel was a prophet and priest who was among the first group of Jews exiled to Babylon. His ministry took place entirely in the foreign land, where he delivered messages to the exiled community. His book is famous for its vivid, dramatic visions, including the vision of the fiery chariot, the valley of dry bones coming back to life, and the detailed vision of a restored, future Temple. Ezekiel’s prophecies were both condemnatory—justifying God’s decision to judge and exile Israel due to their idolatry and unfaithfulness—and restorative. The most significant message of hope is God's promise to give His people a "new heart" and a "new spirit," enabling them to obey Him and live in a renewed covenant relationship.
Ezekiel sees the famous vision of the Valley of Dry Bones. God commands him to prophesy, and the bones miraculously come back to life, symbolizing the future resurrection and restoration of Israel.
Ezekiel prophesies the invasion of Gog of Magog, a massive coalition of northern nations that will attack Israel in the final days. God will intervene to destroy Gog and protect His people.
God promises the utter destruction of Gog and his army on the mountains of Israel. Their destruction will be so complete that it will take seven months to bury the dead and seven years to burn the weapons.
Ezekiel is transported in a vision to the new, future Temple. An angel meticulously measures the gates, walls, and chambers of the vast Temple complex.
