Genesis
The foundational book of the Bible, Genesis tells the story of creation, beginning with God speaking the universe into existence and forming the first humans, Adam and Eve. It quickly moves to the entrance of sin into the world, the devastating global flood, and the covenant God made with Noah. The central part of Genesis focuses on the foundational stories of Israel’s ancestors: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (who was renamed Israel). Abraham’s faith leads to God’s promise that his descendants will become a great nation and inherit a promised land. The book concludes with Jacob’s twelve sons, the start of the twelve tribes, settling in Egypt during a famine, setting the stage for the next book.
God changes Abram's name to Abraham and establishes circumcision as the permanent sign of His everlasting covenant with him and his descendants.

Angels rescue Lot and his family from the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot's wife looks back in disobedience and turns into a pillar of salt.
Abraham lies again about his wife Sarah to King Abimelech. God intervenes in a dream, protecting Sarah and ensuring Abraham's lie does not ruin God's covenant.
