Obadiah
Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, consisting of a single chapter. The entire prophecy is a powerful oracle of judgment directed against the nation of Edom, the descendants of Esau (Jacob’s brother). The Edomites were condemned because they celebrated and actively participated in the destruction and looting of Jerusalem when the Babylonians attacked Judah. God pronounces judgment on Edom for their cruel pride, their violence against their "brother" nation, and their failure to show compassion in their time of distress. The book concludes with a promise that, while Edom will be completely destroyed, the people of Israel will be restored and will possess their full inheritance, demonstrating God’s protection of His covenant people.
