Zechariah
Zechariah, a contemporary of Haggai, also ministered to the returning exiles in Jerusalem, encouraging them to complete the Temple and reminding them of God's greater, long-term plans. The book begins with eight elaborate, symbolic visions that reassure the community of God's future protection and blessing. The remaining chapters contain various prophetic burdens and detailed predictions concerning the Messiah. These prophecies describe the Messiah's humble entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, His betrayal for thirty pieces of silver, His suffering, and His eventual glorious return as a warrior King to conquer the enemies of God’s people. Zechariah gives a clear picture of future hope that inspired the people to continue their rebuilding efforts.
