1 Chronicles 19

David sends messengers to express kindness to Hanun, the new king of the Ammonites. Hanun’s advisors convince him David’s men are spies. Hanun severely humiliates David’s men by shaving off half their beards and cutting their robes in half. The Ammonites then hire the mighty Syrian army to prepare for war against Israel. Joab leads the main Israelite army and defeats the Ammonites and Syrians, forcing the Syrians to make peace with Israel after suffering a massive defeat.
