1 Chronicles 21

1 Chronicles 21

Satan incites David to take a census of the fighting men of Israel and Judah. Joab objects, recognizing the sin in relying on human strength, but David insists. After the census, David is immediately remorseful and confesses his sin. God gives David three choices for punishment, and David chooses three days of pestilence. Seventy thousand men die before the Angel of the Lord is commanded to stop. David builds an altar on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, and the plague stops, making this the future site of the Temple.
