1 Kings 11

1 Kings 11

Solomon’s tragic fall begins. Despite God's clear command, Solomon marries many foreign wives—seven hundred princesses and three hundred concubines—from nations God had forbidden. These wives turn Solomon’s heart away from the Lord in his old age, leading him to build pagan high places and worship their gods, including Ashtoreth (goddess of the Sidonians) and Molech (the Ammonite idol). God grows angry and announces He will tear the kingdom away from his son, leaving only the tribe of Judah for David's sake. Three adversaries are raised against Solomon: Hadad the Edomite, Rezon of Damascus, and Jeroboam.
