1 Kings 19

1 Kings 19

After the victory on Mount Carmel, Queen Jezebel furiously vows to kill Elijah. Fearful, Elijah flees into the wilderness, sinking into deep despair and asking God to take his life. An angel ministers to him, giving him food that sustains him for forty days until he reaches Mount Horeb (Mount Sinai). God appears to Elijah not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a low whisper. God reassures Elijah, reveals there are still seven thousand faithful in Israel, and commands him to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha for future prophetic missions.
