1 Samuel 10

Samuel takes a flask of oil and pours it on Saul’s head, anointing him ruler over Israel. The three signs Samuel prophesied immediately occur, confirming God's Spirit is with Saul. When Saul meets a procession of prophets, the Spirit of God rushes upon him, and he begins to prophesy, astonishing those who knew him. Samuel then gathers all the tribes at Mizpah to formally choose the king by lot. The lot falls to Saul, who is initially hiding among the baggage. He is presented to the people, who shout, "Long live the king!"
