1 Samuel 18

1 Samuel 18

Following the victory over Goliath, Jonathan, Saul's son, makes a deep covenant of friendship with David, loving him as his own soul. David is successful in all of Saul's campaigns, but Saul quickly grows jealous as the people sing, "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands." The Spirit of God departs from Saul, and an evil spirit comes upon him. Saul tries twice to pin David to the wall with a spear while David is playing the harp for him, revealing Saul's deep-seated hatred.
