1 Samuel 28

1 Samuel 28

The Philistines prepare for war against Israel. King Achish commands David and his men to join the Philistine army. Saul, abandoned by God, is terrified because the Lord will no longer answer him through dreams or prophets. In desperation, Saul disguises himself and seeks out a medium in En Dor. The medium brings up the spirit of Samuel, who sternly condemns Saul's disobedience and confirms that the kingdom will be torn from him and that Saul and his sons will die in the battle the next day.

Isaiah 58

God challenges Israel's empty fasting and feigned humility. God requires true worship: caring for the poor, clothing the naked, and removing oppression, promising them light and healing.

Isaiah 59

Israel confesses that their sins have separated them from God. God is astonished that there is no one to intervene, so His own arm brings salvation and vengeance.
