1 Samuel 5

1 Samuel 5

The victorious Philistines take the Ark of the Covenant into their city of Ashdod and place it in the temple of their god, Dagon, next to the idol. The next morning, they find Dagon fallen face-down before the Ark. They set the idol upright, but the following day, Dagon is found fallen again, shattered, with its head and hands broken off. God also strikes the people of Ashdod with painful tumors. The Ark is moved to Gath and then Ekron, with divine judgment following it everywhere, causing the Philistines to panic and seek its removal.
