2 Kings 11

2 Kings 11

After King Ahaziah of Judah is killed, his wicked mother, Athaliah, attempts to seize power by massacring all the remaining royal heirs of the house of Judah. However, Jehoiada the priest secretly rescues the infant prince Joash, Ahaziah’s son, and hides him in the Temple for six years. In the seventh year, Jehoiada gathers the commanders and guards and publicly anoints and crowns the seven-year-old Joash as king. Athaliah rushes to the Temple but is quickly captured and executed, restoring the Davidic line to the throne of Judah.
