2 Kings 14

2 Kings 14

Amaziah, King of Judah, begins his reign righteously but fails to remove the high places. After successfully defeating the Edomites, his pride leads him to challenge Jehoash, King of Israel, to battle. Jehoash warns him with a parable of the thistle and the cedar, but Amaziah insists. Jehoash defeats Amaziah, tears down a large section of the walls of Jerusalem, and plunders the Temple treasures. Amaziah reigns for fifteen more years but is eventually assassinated by a conspiracy and buried in Jerusalem. The people then make his sixteen-year-old son, Azariah (Uzziah), king.
