2 Kings 1

2 Kings 1

King Ahaziah of Israel is severely injured after falling through a lattice in his palace in Samaria. Instead of seeking help from the God of Israel, he sends messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, about his recovery. God intercepts the messengers and sends the prophet Elijah to confront them. Elijah condemns the king for seeking a foreign god and prophesies that Ahaziah will surely die in his bed. Ahaziah sends soldiers to arrest Elijah twice, but fire descends from heaven and consumes the first two companies. The third captain begs for mercy, and Elijah spares them and personally delivers the death sentence to the king.
