2 Kings 22

2 Kings 22

Josiah becomes king of Judah at age eight and rules righteously, following the example of his ancestor David. In his eighteenth year, Josiah begins the restoration of the Temple. During the cleanup, the priest Hilkiah discovers the Book of the Law (likely Deuteronomy). When the Law is read to Josiah, he is devastated by the nation's failure to keep the covenant and tears his robes. Josiah consults the prophetess Huldah, who confirms God’s severe judgment on Judah, but promises Josiah will die in peace because of his humble repentance.
