2 Kings 23

2 Kings 23

King Josiah gathers all the people and publicly reads the entire Book of the Law to them, renewing the covenant with God. He initiates a nationwide spiritual reform, destroying all the altars, high places, idols, and pagan priests, fulfilling the prophecy made against the altar at Bethel 300 years earlier. Josiah celebrates a massive, faithful Passover unlike any since the time of the Judges. Sadly, Josiah is later killed in battle against Pharaoh Necho of Egypt. His reforms do not last, and the sins of Manasseh soon return, leading to the rapid succession of wicked kings.
