2 Kings 2

2 Kings 2

The powerful prophet Elijah and his apprentice, Elisha, travel from Gilgal to Bethel and then to Jericho. Elisha refuses to leave Elijah’s side, knowing his master is about to be taken. At the Jordan River, Elijah strikes the water with his cloak, and the waters miraculously part. As they walk, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separates them, and Elijah is taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha receives Elijah's cloak and, with it, a double portion of his spirit. Elisha demonstrates his new authority by parting the Jordan River and later purifying the poisoned waters of Jericho.
