2 Kings 6

2 Kings 6

Elisha performs two more miracles. First, while helping a group of prophets expand their housing near the Jordan River, the head of an axe falls into the water and is lost. Elisha throws a stick into the water, and the axe head miraculously floats to the surface. Second, when the King of Syria tries to ambush Israel's forces, Elisha supernaturally reveals the Syrian plans to the King of Israel every time. The Syrians surround Elisha's city, but Elisha prays for his servant's eyes to be opened, revealing the mountain is full of chariots and horses of fire protecting them.

Hosea 1

God commands Hosea to marry a promiscuous wife, Gomer, to symbolize Israel's spiritual adultery (unfaithfulness) against God. Their children are given symbolic names representing God's judgment.

Hosea 2

God uses the analogy of marriage to condemn Israel's pursuit of idols. God promises to strip Gomer bare but will eventually woo her back in the wilderness, restoring her and making an everlasting covenant of peace.
