2 Samuel 21

2 Samuel 21

Israel suffers a three-year famine. When David inquires of God, the Lord reveals the famine is due to Saul’s sin of violating a covenant and unjustly slaughtering the Gibeonites. David asks the Gibeonites what justice they require. They demand that seven descendants of Saul be executed. David spares Mephibosheth but hands over the seven other men, who are hanged. The famine ends, and David collects the bones of Saul and Jonathan and gives them an honorable burial in the family tomb, bringing closure to the previous dynasty.
