2 Samuel 2

2 Samuel 2

David inquires of the Lord where he should go, and God directs him to Hebron. The men of Judah anoint David as king over the tribe of Judah. Meanwhile, Abner, Saul’s powerful general, crowns Saul's surviving son, Ish-Bosheth, as king over the remaining tribes of Israel in Mahanaim. This sets the stage for a civil war. A fierce fight breaks out between David's men (led by Joab) and Abner's men, resulting in the death of Asahel, Joab’s swift-footed brother, at the hand of Abner.
