2 Samuel 3

The civil war between the house of Saul (led by Ish-Bosheth and Abner) and the house of David continues, but David's strength grows steadily. Abner, insulted by Ish-Bosheth, switches his allegiance and makes a pact with David, promising to deliver all of Israel to him. Abner arranges for the return of Michal, David's first wife and Saul's daughter, as a political move. Joab, seeking revenge for his brother Asahel, murders Abner when he returns to Hebron. David publicly mourns Abner and curses Joab, further establishing his innocence and righteousness.

2 Kings 24

The Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar invades Judah. King Jehoiakim is exiled, and the prophet Jeremiah warns of impending doom. The Babylonians remove much of the Temple treasure and take the first wave of captives.

2 Kings 25

King Nebuchadnezzar returns and lays siege to Jerusalem. The city falls, the Temple is destroyed, the walls are torn down, and the final wave of captives is taken to Babylon, ending the Kingdom of Judah.
