2 Samuel 3

2 Samuel 3

The civil war between the house of Saul (led by Ish-Bosheth and Abner) and the house of David continues, but David's strength grows steadily. Abner, insulted by Ish-Bosheth, switches his allegiance and makes a pact with David, promising to deliver all of Israel to him. Abner arranges for the return of Michal, David's first wife and Saul's daughter, as a political move. Joab, seeking revenge for his brother Asahel, murders Abner when he returns to Hebron. David publicly mourns Abner and curses Joab, further establishing his innocence and righteousness.
