2 Samuel 4

2 Samuel 4

The murder of Abner leaves King Ish-Bosheth weak and vulnerable. Two of Ish-Bosheth's own captains, Baanah and Rechab, assassinate him while he is resting at midday and bring his severed head to David in Hebron, expecting a reward. David is horrified by their treachery and cruelty. Just as he executed the Amalekite who claimed to kill Saul, David orders the two assassins to be killed, their hands and feet cut off, and their bodies publicly displayed, demonstrating that he will not tolerate the murder of the Lord's anointed, even an enemy.
