Deuteronomy 27

Deuteronomy 27

Moses commands the people to build a great altar of unhewn stones on Mount Ebal after crossing the Jordan. They are to plaster the stones and write all the words of the Law on them. The Levites and elders must stand with the congregation, pronouncing twelve specific curses upon anyone who commits various secret sins (like making an idol, dishonoring parents, or moving a neighbor's landmark). The people must confirm each curse by saying "Amen," solidifying the serious consequences of breaking the covenant.
