Ecclesiastes 9

Ecclesiastes 9

The Preacher asserts that all things are determined by time and chance. He confirms that the same fate—death—awaits the righteous and the wicked, the good and the sinful. He observes that there is hope for the living, because "a living dog is better than a dead lion." The dead know nothing and have no reward. He urges the living to enjoy life with their loved ones, for there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in the grave where they are going.
