Esther 7

Esther 7

At the second banquet, King Xerxes again asks Esther to state her petition. Esther finally reveals her plea: "My life and my people have been sold for destruction, slaughter, and annihilation." The King asks, "Who would dare do such a thing?" Esther points to her enemy and declares, "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!" The King, furious, leaves the room. When he returns, Haman is pleading desperately by Esther’s couch. The King orders Haman to be immediately hanged on the seventy-five-foot gallows Haman had built for Mordecai.

Isaiah 58

God challenges Israel's empty fasting and feigned humility. God requires true worship: caring for the poor, clothing the naked, and removing oppression, promising them light and healing.

Isaiah 59

Israel confesses that their sins have separated them from God. God is astonished that there is no one to intervene, so His own arm brings salvation and vengeance.
