Exodus 12

Exodus 12

This chapter details the institution of the Passover feast. God instructs the Israelites to sacrifice a spotless lamb and spread its blood on the doorposts of their homes. This blood serves as a sign for the angel of death to "pass over" their house when the final judgment strikes Egypt. At midnight, the Lord strikes down every firstborn son and firstborn animal in Egypt. Pharaoh, devastated by the loss of his own son, finally yields and desperately orders the Hebrews to leave immediately.
