Ezekiel 24

Ezekiel 24

The chapter opens on the very day the siege of Jerusalem begins. God commands Ezekiel to use the allegory of a boiling pot to symbolize the city. Jerusalem is the pot, and the inhabitants are the meat and bones boiling inside. The pot is heated to extreme temperatures to consume the inhabitants. Later, God tells Ezekiel that his wife will suddenly die and commands him not to mourn, weep, or show any public sign of grief. This symbolizes that the destruction of Jerusalem will be so overwhelming that the people will be too stunned to weep.
