God begins a series of prophecies against the surrounding nations, declaring judgment against Ammon, Moab, Edom, and the Philistines. God vows to execute vengeance on them, specifically declaring that He will make Ammon a pasture for camels and make Edom a permanent desolation. The purpose is clear: God will act so that these nations "shall know that I am the Lord" through the severity of His judgment.
