Genesis 21

Genesis 21

At the time God promised, Isaac (meaning ""laughter"") is born to 100-year-old Abraham and 90-year-old Sarah. After Isaac is weaned, Sarah grows concerned when she sees Ishmael, the son of the Egyptian servant Hagar, mocking Isaac. Sarah insists that Abraham send Hagar and Ishmael away. Though reluctant, Abraham obeys God's instruction to listen to Sarah. God assures Abraham that Ishmael will also become a great nation. Hagar and Ishmael flee, and God saves them in the wilderness, providing water and promising to care for the boy.
