Genesis 23

Genesis 23

This chapter marks the end of an era with the death of Sarah at the age of 127. Abraham, showing deep respect and grief, publicly approaches the sons of Heth to purchase a proper burial place. He insists on paying the full price for the Cave of Machpelah near Mamre. The transaction is conducted formally and publicly. This land purchase, the first piece of the Promised Land Abraham officially owns, serves as a significant marker of God's promise being fulfilled, even as Abraham buries his wife.
