Genesis 25

Genesis 25

This chapter details the final years of Abraham's life. After Sarah's death, Abraham marries Keturah and has several more children, but he clearly designates Isaac as the sole heir of the covenant blessings. Abraham dies at the age of 175 and is buried by Isaac and Ishmael in the Cave of Machpelah. The chapter then shifts to describe the vast and numerous descendants of Ishmael. Finally, it introduces the twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah: Esau (the firstborn, a hunter) and Jacob (the quieter, preferred by Rebekah). Esau recklessly sells his birthright for a bowl of stew.
