Genesis 34

Genesis 34

This chapter details a tragic and violent incident involving Dinah, Jacob's daughter, who is defiled by Shechem, the son of the local ruler Hamor. Hamor proposes that the families intermarry. Dinah’s brothers, Simeon and Levi, plot revenge. They deceitfully tell Hamor and Shechem that they must all be circumcised to intermarry. While the men are in pain from the surgery, Simeon and Levi brutally attack the city, killing every male, including Hamor and Shechem, and plunder the city. Jacob is furious, fearing retaliation from the surrounding people.
