Genesis 37

Genesis 37

Joseph, Jacob's seventeen-year-old son, is clearly Jacob's favorite, symbolized by the special coat of many colors he receives. Joseph also shares two prophetic dreams where his brothers and parents bow down to him, fueling their jealousy. The brothers conspire to kill him, but Reuben intervenes. Instead, they throw Joseph into a cistern and later sell him to passing Ishmaelite traders for twenty pieces of silver. They then dip Joseph’s coat in goat's blood and present it to Jacob, convincing him that a wild animal killed his beloved son.
