The seven-year famine spreads to Canaan, forcing Jacob to send his ten eldest sons to Egypt to buy grain. Joseph accuses them of being spies and throws them in prison. He releases them but demands they return with their youngest brother, Benjamin, keeping Simeon as a hostage. The brothers reflect on their cruel treatment of Joseph years earlier, believing this trouble is punishment for their sin.
