Hosea 1

Hosea 1

The Lord commands the prophet Hosea to marry a harlot named Gomer, whose life will serve as a living symbol of Israel’s spiritual adultery and unfaithfulness to God. Hosea and Gomer have three children, and God commands Hosea to give them symbolic names representing God's judgment on Israel. The children are named Jezreel (God will scatter), Lo-Ruhamah (No Mercy), and Lo-Ammi (Not My People). The chapter concludes with a promise that in the future, God will reverse the curses and call them "Sons of the Living God," uniting them under one head.
