Isaiah 37
King Hezekiah, hearing the Rabshekah’s blasphemy, tears his clothes and sends messengers to the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah assures the king that God has heard the blasphemy and will defend the city. Sennacherib sends a letter to Hezekiah, further mocking God’s power. Hezekiah takes the letter into the Temple and spreads it out before the Lord in prayer. God answers through Isaiah, promising that Sennacherib will not lay siege to the city. That night, the Angel of the Lord kills 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. Sennacherib retreats and is later assassinated.
