Isaiah 40

Isaiah 40

The prophet begins the powerful section known as the Book of Comfort. The voice of God cries out, "Comfort, comfort my people," announcing that Jerusalem’s warfare is ended and her penalty is paid. The chapter commands, "Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make straight in the desert a highway for our God." All flesh is like grass, but the word of our God stands forever. God is revealed as the powerful Shepherd who carries the lambs in His arms and the Creator who gives power to the faint.
