Isaiah 47

Isaiah 47

God pronounces a mournful, devastating oracle against Babylon, whom He calls the "Daughter of Chaldea." The city, once the dominant mistress of the world, is commanded to sit in the dust, stripped of its glory, wealth, and honor, forced to grind meal like a slave. God reveals that Babylon trusted in its magical arts and wise counselors, but they will fail to save the city. The prophet declares that the destruction will come suddenly and completely, beyond the ability of Babylon's arrogant sorceries to predict or prevent.
