Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53

This is the powerful Fourth Servant Song, detailing the humiliation and vicarious suffering of the Lord's Servant (the Messiah). The Servant will grow up seemingly unremarkable, but will be despised, rejected by men, and familiar with grief. Crucially, the prophet declares that He was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. He was cut off from the land of the living, but bore the sin of many, and will see his offspring and prolong his days.
