Isaiah 7

Isaiah 7

The kings of Aram (Syria) and Israel ally together and attack Judah, causing King Ahaz and the people to tremble. God sends Isaiah to meet Ahaz, urging him to trust God and not fear the two "smoking stumps" (Syria and Israel), who will soon fail. Ahaz refuses to ask for a sign, so God gives one anyway: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (God With Us)." Isaiah warns that before the child is old enough to speak, the enemies will be destroyed, but Assyria will soon attack Judah with devastating force.
