Joshua 4

Joshua 4

After crossing, Joshua commands one man from each of the twelve tribes to take a large stone from the middle of the dry Jordan River bed where the priests stood. These twelve stones are set up at the first campsite in the Promised Land, Gilgal, as a permanent memorial. This monument is intended to remind future generations of God's power in stopping the Jordan for Israel. The priests wait until everyone has crossed before exiting the riverbed, upon which the Jordan immediately returns to its normal flow.
