Joshua 5

Joshua 5

As the Israelites settle at Gilgal, two key things happen. First, Joshua leads the entire male population to be circumcised, renewing their covenant identity, as the practice had stopped during the forty years of wandering. Second, the people celebrate the Passover for the first time in the Promised Land. Immediately after this, the manna ceases, and the Israelites begin to eat the produce of Canaan. Finally, Joshua encounters the Commander of the Army of the Lord, who declares the ground holy and confirms the divine nature of the upcoming conquest.
