Joshua 9

Joshua 9

The kings of Canaan, upon hearing of the destruction of Jericho and Ai, form a coalition to fight Israel. However, the people of Gibeon devise a clever trick to secure peace. They travel to the Israelite camp wearing old clothes, patched sandals, and dry bread, pretending to be travelers from a distant land. The Israelites, failing to consult the Lord, make a solemn treaty with the Gibeonites. When the deception is discovered three days later, Israel must honor the oath, instead making the Gibeonites perpetual servants to the Tabernacle.
