Judges 11

Judges 11

The Ammonites besiege Israel, and the elders seek a leader. They approach Jephthah, a mighty warrior who was unjustly driven out by his half-brothers because he was the son of a prostitute. Jephthah agrees to lead the army if he becomes their permanent head. Before battle, Jephthah makes a rash vow to God: if God grants him victory, he will sacrifice the first thing that comes out of his house to meet him upon his return. God grants the victory, but the first person to greet him is his only daughter, leading to a tragic, heart-wrenching outcome.
