Judges 12

Judges 12

The tribe of Ephraim once again confronts the victorious judge, Jephthah, threatening to burn him and his house for not calling them to battle. This time, Jephthah does not appease them. The men of Gilead fight the men of Ephraim, defeating them severely. To identify the fleeing Ephraimites, the Gileadites force them to pronounce the word "Shibboleth," which the Ephraimites could not say correctly due to their dialect (pronouncing it "Sibboleth"). Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at the fords of the Jordan. After Jephthah, three minor judges rule: Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon.
